7 deaths of Maria Callas
CANCELLED
Wednesday 2 September 2020 - 8 pm - Opéra de Paris
It is the heroine’s relationship with death that Marina Abramović brings to the stage in 7 Deaths of Maria Callas. A unique production at the crossroads of opera and performance art in which the succession of arias—from Carmen, Tosca, Otello, Norma, Aida, Madama Butterfly, and La Traviata—allow her to elucidate on the killing of women by 19th century opera composers.
A pioneering performance artist since the 1970s, Marina Abramović has contributed in large measure to recasting the image of the female body, objectified for centuries through the eyes of men.
