Kaleidoscope
Participatory concert
In this choral panorama, as eclectic as it is varied, Aedes invites the audience to take part in a unique experiment where the listeners are co-devisers of the programme they are to hear. An interactive musical journey of discovery in the rich world of vocal music, with the audience as one of the principal characters!
With Mathieu Romano at the helm, conducting a chamber version of Aedes, the audience is given several opportunities during the concert to select the sound world, harmonies, melodies and emotions it would like to explore. For example, after listening to a piece by Mozart, our listeners vote as to which direction they would like the concert to take: remaining in the same musical space ; moving a century forwards in time ; or jumping to a completely different place with a contemporary piece or even a popular song from the current repertoire? Every listener has a coloured card to vote with.
From Janequin to Lise Borel by way of Bach, Mozart, Debussy, Poulenc, Bruckner, or maybe Mel Bonis, Billy Joel, Barbara or a spiritual, this educational programme, a combination of choral ‘bests’ and less well-known little nuggets, is aimed at both newcomers to music and old hands. Hand in hand with eight singers in a musical adventure of which it is the ‘hero’ in a way, the audience is invited to take part in choosing the programme, its decisions taken in answer to questions and pointers offered in a kind of game by Mathieu Romano. With its large number of different possible combinations, directed first by the artists and then by the audience, each performance of Kaleidoscope will be a unique, brand-new version!
