Bellini I Puritani
CANCELLED
Thursday 8th April 2021 - Théâtre des Champs-Elysées
Vincenzo Bellini’s final lyrical work continues the musical evolution of the young Italian composer who has been engaged since his previous seminal works, I Capuleti e i Montecchi, La Sonnambula and Norma. The exceptional sense of melody and lyricism, which reached its peak in I Puritani, has become a true signature of Bellini and distinguishes him from Donizetti and Rossini in particular. The undeniable romantic flavor of this opera owes much to the inspired libretto by the Scottish poet Walter Scott. The orchestral tone and the vocal writing reinforce this feeling.
