France and Italy: Madrigals and Songs
Tueday 29th November 2016 - Auditorium de l'Opéra de Dijon
While the art of the madrigal was developing in Italy, the chanson was making its appearance in France. Both genres were developed to give expression to the text – be it through the colourful narratives of Servin and Janequin or the harmonic audacity of Monteverdi and Gesualdo. Five centuries later Berio and Fénelon pay homage to this rich exchange with their own madrigals and songs.
